Math Prerequisite: Currently taking or previously completed Geometry and a grade of “B” or better in all Algebra courses taken at the high school level. Additional Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in Intro to Engineering Design Honors (991) or in Residential Architecture (902). This overview course emphasizes the inter-relationship and mutual dependence of the civil engineering and architecture fields. Students use state-of-the-art software to solve real problems and apply knowledge to hands-on projects and activities. For example, students will experience the responsibilities of architects and civil engineers by developing and implementing plans for a playground/park or vacation home. By the end of the course, students will be able to present a comprehensive plan including three-dimensional renderings of buildings, building improvements, zoning and ordinance constraints, infrastructure requirements, and other essential project documentation. Students who complete the course and the national exam with high achievement are eligible to receive college credit from the Rochester Institute of Technology and several other colleges for a fee.
